Summer Reading Challenge

June 3rd, 2011

In an effort to help our students become fluent readers we are giving a Christ Lutheran School summer reading challenge. Each student in grades K – 8 is asked to read, for pleasure, a certain number of total hours this summer. Every child that meets or exceeds the goal will be given an award to document their achievement.

The summer goals for each grade are as follows:

  • Parents of incoming Kindergartners and 1st graders are asked to spend at least 15 minutes each day reading aloud to their child.
  • 2nd and 3rd graders read a total of 10 hours.
  • 4th graders – 15 hours.
  • 5th graders – 20 hours.
  • 6th graders – 25 hours.
  • 7th and 8th graders – 30 hours.

Each student in grades 2 -8 needs to fill out a Summer Reading Challenge Log, documenting the hours read, have it signed by their parent and return it to their teacher.   7th and 8th grade students also need to complete the two journal pages.
